What I read in February 2026

In February, I finished nine books. I blame the shortness of the calendar month for me not reaching double figures! Big themes of this month’s reading were time travel, futuristic settings, and weirdness – usually in a good way!

I did a few pages of scribbles, both inside and outside of organised groups, mostly in a spirit of curiosity and exploration (‘where can I take this?’).

The Expansion Project, The Bones Beneath My Skin, Tombstoning, The Silver Wind, A Line You Have Traced

The Expansion Project, by Ben Pester - the writing group appearance/delightfully weird book that launched several pages of writing based on dreams I had recently. I just wanted a tiiiny bit more resolution. 4.5*

The Bones Beneath My Skin, by TJ Klune - 5*

Tombstoning, by Doug Johnstone - 4*

The Silver Wind, by Nina Allan - 4.5*

A Line You Have Traced, by Roisin Dunnett - 4.5*

Nameless, Saoirse, The Legacy Human, Because I Don't Know What You Mean and What You Don't

Nameless, by Zoe Ann Wendler - 4.5*

Saoirse, by Charleen Hurtubise - review coming soon! 5*

The Legacy Human, by Susan Kaye Quinn - 3*

Because I Don’t Know What You Mean and What You Don’t, by Josie Long - some very good stories, others that left me confused and/or cold. 3.5*

Looking ahead…

The Seed Vault, To the Moon and Back, Reaper, The House in the Cerulean Sea, Slow Gods

(sorry for the potato quality of the image…)

Lots of blog tour stops in the diary for March, and The Seed Vault, by H. B. Viegas, To the Moon and Back, by Eliana Ramage, and Reaper, by Vanda Symon look especially promising.

I’m also planning to continue my journey though TJ Klune’s back catalogue with The House in the Cerulean Sea, and I couldn’t exactly say no to a time travel story from Claire North (Slow Gods).
